At Huddle we love it when a new business opens and this one is a mega one!
Hanson Self Storage, part of the family-owned Hanson Logistics business, has opened its doors to the public this week to serve the ongoing demand for self storage.
Located on Leeds Road in Huddersfield, Hanson Self-Storage received a £multimillion investment earlier this year to develop the purpose-built site.
Launched by the team behind Hanson Logistics, which was established in 1846, Hanson Self Storage has created 5 new jobs to date and has plans to expand to multiple sites over the next five years.
The 73.000 (40,000 phase one) sq. ft site has opened with 500 units available initially, across three floors, which will increase to 1000 units once the site has been fully fitted out.
Cat Smith, Manager at Hanson Self Storage, said: “Demand for self-storage is growing quickly and customers are now looking for a wider range of options. These include traditional short-term storage use for house moves to longer-term storage to compensate for space that new properties no longer have, as well as business owners storing commercial items. We’re pleased to be able to offer this mix of units alongside leading edge technology, but always with a person available to help, 24/7.”
Hanson Self Storage opens with gold standard industry technology throughout the premises, including NOKE entry systems, AI-powered thermography and AI situational awareness support that will monitor for security and safety using criteria including temperature and air quality. There will also be staff on site 24/7 to support customers.
All of Hanson Logistics’ operations are carbon neutral, and Hanson Self Storage’s building has been designed with efficiency throughout, including low powered access control systems, lighting and MID Meter compliant EV chargers supplying 100% from solar energy. 64 solar panels have been installed with the potential and space for additional installation in the future, as Hanson aims to run all its operations from renewable energy sources.
Paul Pheasey, Managing Director of Hanson Logistics, said: “We have spent years exploring the self-storage market globally and researching the technology and customer demands that we’re now seeing play out in this fast-growing industry.
“With Hanson Self Storage, we wanted to create an industry leading site and service that combines our operational expertise with new technology, whilst staying true to our heritage as a family-owned and family-first business. We have exciting expansion plans, but for now, we’re pleased to be able to serve the Huddersfield region once again, for the first time directly to consumers since our home delivery service in 2005.”
