Be Your Own Best Guide

Trust your highest self, your inner tutor

Share Post:

Who do you turn to when you are facing challenges or have a big decision to make? Trusted friends, loved ones, AI? Perhaps you take the head-in-sand approach to avoid overwhelm?

Whilst advice from friends and loved ones can be valuable, it can be confusing when people have opposing opinions, skewed by their own life experiences, emotional responses. Whilst AI can be helpful for planning certain things, it doesn’t know you, how you think, what you feel, there’s no human connection. The ostrich approach can be an easy option but the stress indecision or hiding from challenges can put on your body is costly, from sleepless nights and anxiety to physical symptoms such as headaches, digestive problems, and palpitations.

There is one person that knows you better than anyone else, that gives the best advice and always puts you first. This person is always ready to hold your hand and guide you gently through any challenges you may be facing or any decisions that need to be made. This person is your highest self.

Beg pardon? Who is my highest self and how do I access their wisdom?

Your highest self is quite simply your inner tutor. An aspect of yourself that always has your welfare at heart. Sometimes referred to as your higher consciousness or your inner wise woman or man, this aspect of yourself always knows what is best for you and knows the right decision to make, always with the best outcome.

You can access this wisdom in a variety of ways, meditation, journalling, crystals but what if I told you there is an easy, fun and foolproof tool you can use to access this innate wisdom, without the need for bendy crossed legs, yoga pants or chanting Aum.

Welcome to the gentle yet powerful guidance of oracle cards.

Unlike tarot cards which tend to be more prescriptive with specific meanings for each card, oracle cards require a level of intuitive interpretation. But I am not intuitive, I hear you cry! My lovely soul, YES, YOU ARE and by using oracle cards you can create a short cut to accessing your intuition, simply by shuffling a deck of cards and choosing one that you fancy, it’s as simple as that, hey presto!

You may be reading this thinking, “what a load of rhubarb how can a card help you make a decision”? or perhaps “that sounds a bit scary and woo woo for me”

Having conducted readings for many people as an accredited oracle card reader, I can tell you that this method is neither rhubarb nor woo woo, it simply works and it’s fun.

Before we go further, let’s clarify something, oracle cards are just cards. They are not magical or mystical and evil spirits do not reside in them. They are simply illustrated cards with words of gentle guidance. Any magic resides only within you. Oracle cards are simply a tool to access your inner magic.

Here is how to work with them,

Firstly remember, you are made of energy, and energy goes where intention flows.

  • Hold your deck of cards and set the intention that this reading is for your highest good.
  • Next set the intention to ‘Please offer me guidance on’ (you fill in the blanks here) or ask a specific question such as ‘Should I accept that job promotion’
  • Shuffle your cards and either fan them out on a table and choose a card that calls to you or simply stop at a card mid shuffle that feels like its drawing your attention, this is the card your highest self has chosen to aid you with that challenge or decision.

Sometimes when shuffling, a card or a few cards will literally jump out at you, this is often a sign that these are the cards to be read or chosen between (it can also be shoddy shuffling but with practice you will learn to tell the difference) If you feel you require further guidance based on the card you pulled, you can ask a more specific question and draw again but be careful not to just keep pulling cards until you get one you like the sound of, this will ultimately lead to you making decisions from your ego rather than your highest self which is unlikely to serve you well.

Whilst oracle cards are by their nature positive, some cards can bring an aspect of challenge and you may not always like the wisdom they bring forth, trust that this wisdom has come from the truest version of yourself and needs to be heard. If you put a card you do not like back in the pack and re-shuffle with the same intention, the likelihood is that the same card will keep appearing, for this is the quiet whisper of your soul. Trust it. Regular practice using oracle cards will grow your intuitive muscles and lead you to trust your own inner guidance more.

There are many great oracle decks to work with, my favourites include Maude Hirst’s Intuitive Whispers deck or for more direct answers to questions, Sonia Choquette’s Divine Energy cards pack quite a punch. If you like angels, then anything from Kyle Gray is highly recommended. Locally to Huddersfield you can find a beautiful array of cards at the delightful Goddess and The Guru in Holmfirth https://goddessandtheguru.com/ also Hay House online offer a large variety https://www.hayhouse.co.uk/shop/cards-kits-gifts/card-decks.

If you would like to experience having your cards read for you, I offer a year-long reading, where I remotely tune in to your energy and intuitively choose and read your cards for the year ahead. I use WhatsApp voice notes to record your reading and send you a separate recording for each quarter so that it’s easy for you to go back and listen to each month. I have had wonderful feedback on these readings; reviews can be found here Google Reviews

Happy exploring but be warned, oracle cards are like Pringles, once you pop you can’t stop!
